Volunteer Architect Wanted The Gambia West Africa For 6-12 Months

A totally innovative company - Earthworks Construction - The Gambia - has been established to construct a variety of buildings using compressed, stabilised earth blocks (CSEBs). Using manually operated machines imported from India Earthworks Construction is building a variety of structures:
+ small (10 - 30,000 litre) water towers
+ low cost housing
+ a children's theatre
+ a clinic extension for the Medical Research Council
+ an Eco-Retreat and Learning Centre that incorporates some unique designs (see www.sandele.com )
Apart from these projects there are a number of prospective commissions in the pipeline and a busy schedule assured!
Until May we had the services of a part-qualifed volunteer architect - Tom Brand - who stayed with us for more than a year and, as a result, has gained a place on the Master's Degree in Environmental Architecture programme at the Centre for Alternative Technology in North Wales.
Tom helped us with design, costing, client contacts and project supervision services. We urgently need a replacement who is able to design using Sketchup, create spreadsheets and work closely with our Gambian Construction Director.
Tom has written his own statement and job specification that is available on request. We will provide board and lodging and a fabulous opportunity to live in West Africa and to have an invaluable learning experience for someone interested in 'clean and green technology'. Part qualified and currently unemployed architects are welcome to apply.
