Job Description

- You must be able to organise own workload with regards to assessing patient needs, planning, implementation and evaluation of a programme of care which is evidence based utilising all available resources taking into consideration the lifestyle, gender and cultural background and ensure involvement with the patient, family, carers and significant others;

- Practice within the Legal & Ethical framework as established by National Legislation to ensure patient interests and well-being are met;

- Work within the National Health Service Legislation, Guidelines and Procedures. Responsible for maintaining patient records within agreed standards.

- Enhance the working environment through teamwork and mutual respect of others.

- Motivate and encourage self and others to achieve team and organisational goals.

- Contribute to and influence practice development within the clinical area.

Person Specification

First level nurses are trained in general nursing.This is universal within the European Union and is based on the EU Directive 77/453/EEC.Eligibility for first level nurse registration in Malta therefore requires the following:
- the course followed must be at of three years duration or else 4600 hours, all of which must be relevant to the NURSING profession
- the course must be followed in a post secondary institution and there must be a balance in the theoretical and practical components of the program
- theory and practice must include the following topics: Medical; General and Specialist Surgical;General and Specialist , Paediatrics, Maternity and Child Health, Mental Health and Psychiatry, Care of the Elderly,Primary Health and Community Care.

Applicants who have not followed this line of training may be eligible for registration as a first level nurse if they have worked three of the last five years at this grade having total responsibility of patient care, are from an EU country and are registered as first level nurses in the EU country where they followed their nursing course.
