How to Become a Practicing Dentist in London UK

If you are like me and like many other people you probably do not like going to a dentist. But when the needs come. When that excruciating pain prevents you from properly eating and sleeping postponing the visit to a Dentist is not wise. Well there is one place that I would rather like to go to dentists and that is London.

What is a Dentist Career in London Like

Medical Jobs are posing very attractive career opportunities in London and there is a plenty of room for Dentists. While the locals are enjoying the benefits of the employment opportunities in medicine pertaining to dentistry, there is a very good opportunity for those outside the EU to have their share as well. The United Kingdom offers a reasonably accommodating visa policy and if you fulfill the following requirements, you may just earn a chance to obtain a work permit for a dentistry job in London.

Requirements

Dentists from outside the United Kingdom must get themselves registered with the General Dental Council (GDC).

Qualified dentists from a number of countries are eligible for the GDC registration.  Their qualifications should be equivalent to those in the United Kingdom. These countries include Australia, South Africa and New Zealand to name a few, but you can get the detailed information in this regard from your nearest British Consulate. However, Dentists who have not graduated from the recognized Universities of one of these countries will either have to acquire a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) degree from the UK, or will have to pass the GDC International Qualifying Examination in order to get registered with the GDC, which is a prerequisite to commence practicing in the United Kingdom.

The BDS degree is offered by a number of British dental schools and is of a period of study of at least five years. Alternatively, a more convenient option for overseas dentists can be the IQE (International Qualification Examination) of the GDC, which is a very carefully constructed test that effectively tests the medical knowledge of the applicants both in theory and practice. You can gather more information about the test on the official GDC website: https://www.gdc-uk.org

Another impressive option is a Temporary Registration. This allows you to practice dentistry in a supervised position only, only suitable for training, teaching or research purposes. It is valid for a limited time only and such dentists do not become eligible to work in general or private practice unless their course of training is completed.

If you’re applying for a UK visa, whether is it for work or for study, you need to prove your proficiency in English through the IELTS. A minimum over all score of 7.0 is required for clearing this test. For more information, contact your nearest British Council or visit the official website.  https://www.britishcouncil.org

The jobs for dentists are available with lucrative salary packages and in varied environments like NHS Hospitals, Private Hospitals and Clinics. There are plenty of opportunities for both the aspiring and experienced dentists. All it takes is a little initiative in order to bring about the change in your life that you always wanted.
It’s exactly what London is offering you.
