Oxfam Shop Volunteer Assistant Manager

Our Voluntary Internships run for a minimum of 3 months and hence unpaid. References will be available on completion. Ideally you will be able to offer a minimum of three days a week, possibly to include one day at the weekend. We will only consider applicants who live not too far from the area.
If you are interested in applying as a intern/ trainee assistant manager to enhance your CV and be trained in shop management to the level of assistant manager, this is a fantastic opportunity to develop or enhance your Retail and supervisory skills.
This role requires a higher level of commitment, reliability and willingness to work as part of a team as well as on your own initiative.
Tasks involved in the project:
• Managing donations (Clothes, accessories and homeware) and stock processing.
• Operating the till, credit card machine and providing excellent customer service.
• Maximizing the income from donations, new products such as Fairtrade and Gift Aid.
• Assisting the manager in running the shop operations.
• Completing daily and weekly Financial reports as well as implementing Trading Division's accounting policies and banking procedures.
Once fully trained:
• Ensuring the smooth running of the shop in the absence of the manager and take actions to solve routine problems , managing a small team and training new volunteers
• Learning the main management systems in a retail / charity shop business. Support the team with social media and in the local community • Ensuring that shop activities reflect Oxfam values and beliefs.
• Keeping up to date with Oxfam's internal communications and share any news with the shop team.
Skills and competencies:
• Ability to follow instructions, work within the shop guidelines and to manage a busy workload in partnership with the shop manager and shop team.
• Reliability and willingness to work as part of a team as well as on your own initiative • Good communication skills. Some IT and supervisory skills
• Honesty and integrity
• Ability to maintain an environment that is safe from hazards and complies with health and safety legislation and Oxfam procedures.
